Filing a Claim: Auto Insurance
The Louisiana Department of Insurance advises policyholders to review their auto insurance policy to see what types of coverage are included. If you have been in an accident and need to file a claim, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Collect Information. You should exchange information with the other driver after a car crash. Share your name, address, and the name and phone number of your insurance company.
Take a photo/video. Use your phone to take photos or video of the accident only if it’s safe to do so.
File a claim. Contact your insurance company as soon as possible. Your insurance company will assign a claims adjuster to assess the damage.
According to LA. R.S. 22:1892(D)(1), as the owner of a motor vehicle involved in an accident or submitting an insurance claim, you have the right to select the repair facility of your choice.
