Louisiana Fortify Homes Program Making Progress in Legislature
Last year, we worked with the State Legislature to create the Fortify Homes Program within the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI). Under this program, Louisiana residents will be able to apply for grants to repair or retrofit their roof using methods that meet or exceed the fortified home standards of the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. These stronger roofs are vital to Louisiana’s long-term insurance market as they will increase resiliency against future hurricanes. This session, we are working to secure funding for the program and to mandate discounts and policy endorsements that will encourage homeowners to take advantage of the grant funding. What You Need to Know About Medicare Fraud
Medicare fraud is a serious offense, and it’s important for seniors and their families to protect themselves against the most common types of fraud, like being overcharged or having your identity stolen. See below for some tips from the LDI on avoiding Medicare fraud:
- Be vigilant with your Medicare plan. Check your statements to make sure they align with services you’ve received and to catch unnecessary charges early.
- Protect your information. The best way to avoid scams is to guard your Medicare Number and your Social Security Number. Be careful about who you share that information with.
- Report suspicious activity from your provider. If you encounter a fraudulent claim or any other provider abuse, contact the LDI Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) at 225-342-5301 to report it as soon as possible.
