Quick Tips: Finding an Agent

An insurance agent can help you understand your insurance options and choose the right coverage for you and your family. The Louisiana Department of Insurance has an online tool that can help you find an insurance agent in your area. Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your meeting with an agent.

Ask Questions. If you are unsure about the quote or coverage you need, now is the time to get answers.

Review. Evaluate your options with your agent to make sure you’re choosing the best policy to meet your needs and budget.

Request. Ask for copies of all of the paperwork you sign and keep a copy of the payment receipt or check for the initial premium payment you gave the agent for the policy.

Medicare Reminder

The Medicare Advantage open enrollment period ends March 31. During this time, beneficiaries can change to a different Medicare Advantage Plan or switch to Original Medicare. Our senior health counselors offer the following guidance:

  • Review the information you receive from your plan. Pay special attention to the annual notice of change and evidence of coverage.

  • Take charge of your health and know the benefits your plan offers.

  • Refer to your Medicare and You handbook for additional information and important deadlines.

Our Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Director Vicki Dufrene connects with beneficiaries virtually to offer the latest Medicare updates and tips. Click here to follow us on our Facebook Live Series, Leave it to Vicki.

Spring Forward

Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 12. As you are setting your clocks, remember to change the batteries in your smoke detector and create or update your home inventory list. It is important to make insurance a part of your spring cleaning “to-do” list. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) offers a home inventory app that helps you to create a record of your belongings. Click here to download.
