Managing Risk for Small Businesses

Part of owning a small business is knowing how to handle the risk associated with it. In order to minimize risk and protect customers and employees, business owners should utilize the many insurance products available to them, such as commercial property insurance, workers' compensation insurance and more.

These resources can be helpful and beneficial to running your small business. For example, a Business Owners Policy (BOP) is a package of several different types of insurance that offer business owners a cost-efficient option. Work with a licensed insurance agent to find the best insurance option for your business.

Quick Tips: How to File an Insurance Complaint

When consumers aren’t satisfied with their insurance policies, it’s important to file an insurance complaint. An overview of the steps to file a complaint:

Gather all necessary information and documents. To file a complaint with the LDI, call us at 1-800-259-5300 or click here. The complaint form requires name, address, contact information, coverage, time of claim, description of the problem and any relevant agent and adjuster information. You should also include copies of correspondences, your insurance ID card or copy of your policy, and the filed claim.

Send in your complaint. After gathering the relevant information, send in the complaint form online or by mail.

Await response from LDI. Usually, LDI will get back to you within a week of receiving the complaint and send a copy to the company.

Receive results and reports. On average a complaint takes 45 days to fully investigate, and the examiner will send you a letter with the results. You will be kept up to date with periodic status reports.
