The mission of the Louisiana Department of Insurance, Division of Minority Affairs is to create public awareness of employment opportunities in the insurance industry among minorities through education and employment preparation assistance. This mission is accomplished through programs developed by the Division of Minority Affairs working in conjunction with various groups and educational institutions.
Since recent implementation of the Affordable Care Act and with many baby boomers beginning to enter their retirement years, the insurance sector is a rapidly growing and thriving field. It is expected to continue growing for the foreseeable future. Research shows that the industry will need to fill approximately 400,000 positions by the year 2020.
Many career opportunities are available for individuals with diverse academic backgrounds and may be reviewed in the Career Opportunities in the Insurance Industry brochure.
