LATIFPA Education Program
The Auto Theft Education Program informs and educates middle and high school students and senior citizens about the consequences of auto theft and insurance fraud. The curriculum is presented at no cost to schools and civic, business and professional organizations. LATIFPA began presenting its curriculum in 2007.
During fiscal year 2010-2011 the education program was presented to 1,305 middle school students in East Baton Rouge and St. Martin parishes and 556 high school students in East Baton Rouge, Livingston, Lafayette and Orleans parishes. The vehicle theft and insurance fraud curricula were also presented to 2,995 individuals in various civic, business and professional organizations in Orleans, Bossier and East Baton Rouge parishes.
Since the inception of this program, presentations on vehicle theft and prevention and insurance fraud prevention have been delivered to nearly 24,000 individuals. MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM DETAILS
Approximately 50 minute lesson plan together with video (approximately 9 minutes) - LATIFPA Presenter.
Approximately 50 minute second-day lesson plan for the classroom teacher on Applying Sound Decision-Making Skills.
Designed to be applicable to students at various grade levels and various classes such as social studies, physical education or science.
Schools can elect to implement the curriculum and show the video with the classroom teacher introducing it and leading the discussion. Other schools may choose to have a staff member from the Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority or other official from the Louisiana Department of Insurance teach it during one class period. Some schools may invite a guest speaker to accompany the presentation and curriculum materials to deliver additional information regarding auto theft and insurance fraud.
This curriculum is designed to teach good decision making skills and applying those decision making skills to specific situations involving car theft.
HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM DETAILS
Approximately 45 minute lesson plan together with video - LATIFPA Presenter.
Designed to be applicable to students at the high school level. Curriculum materials provide information for new drivers on parking smart and how to avoid becoming a victim of auto theft.
Pre and post tests: To be administered before and after the presentation to see how much information the students have gained due to the presentation. Tests are given at time of presentation by a staff member of the Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority. Some schools or the authority staff may invite a guest speaker to accompany the presentation and curriculum materials. This curriculum is designed to teach good decision making skills and applying those decision making skills to specific situations involving car theft.
Curriculum is accompanied by a report form to be completed by the school resource officer and returned to the Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority.
